Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has a long history and recently it has been accepted by more and more people in western countries. And tongue diagnosis, which is widely used in TCM, has been a research hotspot in recent years. However, due to its qualitative and experience-based nature, traditional tongue diagnosis is not well understood in Western medicine and has limited application in clinical medicine. Besides, most research on computerized tongue diagnosis mainly focuses on tongue detection and segmentation rather than giving analysis without database. And In this paper, we proposed a novel tongue diagnosis analysis method aiming to make up the blank of TCM research. The method can not only detect and distinguish tongue from other facial parts, but also it is able to separate coating of the tongue, whose abnormal appearance is related to different diseases, from body of the tongue. Then we use a color-based medical analysis for computerized tongue diagnosis method to extract features of tongue coating and automatically relating feature to different classification and give the corresponding medical analysis without database.
