@@Calcium is considered a ubiquitous second messenger in all eukaryotic cells. Many cells use calcium signaling to carry information from the extracellular side of the plasma membrane to targets in their interior. In fungi, calcium has been shown to regulate the transport of several compounds, such as polyamine in N.crassa(Daxis et al, 1991) or amino acids in Achlya(Cameron and Lejohn, 1972). However, there have been no reports regarding the quantitative external Ca2+ regulation on biotransformation in fungi.
